"Dreams are . . . illustrations from the book your soul is writing about you."

-- Marsha Norman

I diversified my writing early in a 20-year freelancing career so as to publish in a variety of genres and markets.

The result is more than 700 articles in several dozen magazines that include American Profile, Bay Area Parent, Christian Science Monitor, Connect for Kids, Delicious Living, Hope, Liguorian, Mamm, Ms., PanGaia, The World & I, Yankee, and others both in print and online.

A mother of two and a former nurse, I contribute regularly as a columnist to a variety of parenting, health, and religious magazines on issues of family life, health, and spirituality. My education includes a degree in Arboriculture and Park Management from the University of Massachusetts, as well as a diploma in nursing, and issues of health, nature, and the environment are often the focus of my writing.

My articles about the freelance writing life have appeared in Writer's Weekly, Inscriptions, and Writer's Digest Forum and my current book projects address spirituality and the writing life and gender equality in families.

In addition to nonfiction, I have published short fiction and poetry in such markets as Northern New England Review, Herald of the South, Treetop Panorama, Women's Voice, and Writer Online.

My stories and articles for children have appeared in Pockets and Brilliant Star magazines, and my picture book, Jamila Does Not Want A Bat in Her House, is scheduled for publication soon.

Formerly program coordinator at Green Acre Bahá'í School, Maine, I help coordinate an annual Spirit Of Children Conference on Children’s Literature and Art there to help writers and artists foster the spiritual life of children.

In 2001, I received a very special and unexpected opportunity to teach children in China, living and working in Shanghai with our daughter and sharing both English- and virtues-training with 1,000 of that city's kindergartners through a fun, music-driven curriculum. Those four months may have shown me more about children, China, life, cross-cultural understanding, and human hearts than anything in the 45 years I'd lived up to that time. China, "the country of the future," as it has been called, truly has so much to share with the West. I expect it will find its way into my writing for the rest of my days. READ MORE

As organizer of local "Dialogues on Race" to promote appreciation of diversity, I helped create a Handbook for Neighborhood Dialogues on Race Unity. I have also served as writer and editor for documentary film projects by ComTel Productions of Massachusetts.

I spent six years as features editor for a New Hampshire newspaper group. My awards include first place two years in a row in the feature-writing category of the New Hampshire Press Association's annual competition and a 2002 Media Excellence Award from the National Foundation for Women Legislators. I remain a contributing writer and columnist for Seacoast Newspapers, have been contributing editor for Our Times for Women and New Hampshire Life magazines, and have edited several book projects by New England authors.

I have offered workshops on nonfiction and creative writing through Elderhostel, at New Hampshire's Seacoast Writers Conference, and am an instructor with the Long Ridge Writer's Group.
